Frequently Asked Questions

1.

What type of Internet connection is needed to view the Open Ring classes?

There are two types of Internet connections common at home – dial up connections and broadband. Dial up will not work for video connections. Broadband connections come in several types – DSL, Cable, Fiber (FIOS from Verizon or U-Verse from AT&T are examples), and Commercial connections. Your service will claim speeds for ‘upload’ (from your home) and ‘download’ (to your home.) Connections are rated in kilobits per second (kbps) and megabits per second (mbps), which is 1000 kbps. Your connection should provide a download speed of at least 1.0 mbps to be able to watch video without problems. Commercial and Fiber typically are faster than that. To find out the typical speed of your actual connection, you test your connection at http://www.speedtest.net <http://www.speedtest.net/>. You may be able to watch at slower speeds, but the picture may be jerky and lag behind the video.

A: The class should always begin at 9:30 AM with an update of any class news for the week.  The video, however, begins afterwards when Dan begins the lesson.
